I LOVE prints! When I was 12, I photographed with a small film camera. I remember the excitement when I ran to the local photo lab to pick up the prints, touch them, pin them to the wall in my room, look at them every day, and relive the moments.
This weekend I framed these beautiful images of my daughter and I want to share my thoughts about it.
I work with the kids and the parents all the time and more often than not, I see the parents share the images I take on social media, but they do not print them. If the prints are not ordered with a few weeks of the session, they are not very likely to be ordered at all. Life happens. The parents plan to print them themselves and never do. They get instant gratification by sharing the images on the Facebook ‘Wall’ or Instagram and no longer are motivated to display these images on their wall at home.
Family Photography - Why?
The caveat is that the young kids, do not have access to social media. So by not printing the images and not displaying them, the parents take away from their kids the joy of reliving these moments. I am not only taking about professional edited fine art images, I am also talking about family vacations, museum trips, days on a local playground, beach time, camping trips and so on. I am even talking about the images before the kids.
One of my daughter’s favourite things to do is to open our photo albums from before she was born and flip thought the pages. She wants to know everything. She just loves learning about her family. This is something she would never be able to do online. So why take the images only to show them to the people on Facebook? Why are the ‘Likes’ so important and valued so much? Think about the deeper meaning behind taking the pictures. Is it to share with 1000 people we do not even speak to and to get superficial thumbs up online or is it to capture the memory, the moment for your family?
Kids Photography - Wall Prints Increase Their Self-Esteem and Promote Positive Body Image!
When I framed these images, my four year old daughter came to me looked at them and asked “Mommy, do you like my face?” To which I of course said, “Yes, I do, do you like your face?” She looked at me and said with a huge smile ear to ear, “I LOVE MY FACE, can I put these pictures on the wall in my room?”.
Just this morning, she told me that she loves the image with wings the most, ‘It is stunning’, she said.
I am not a psychiatrist, BUT how my daughter sees herself and feels about herself is forming right now. This is something that will affect every aspect of her life. It is important for her to feel good about who she is and how she looks. Beautiful professional images on her wall are a reminder that is is amazing and she can do anything.
Oakville Photographer - Maybe Princess Mini Sessions Anyone?
In fact, I believe that every girl should love the way she looks. I am strongly considering princess mini sessions addition to my offerings! Keep an eye out! I will make it beautiful and there will be a ready to hang print included. It is all about prints, right?
Steps not to miss this!
